Visiting Philadelphia

This spring I had a long overnight stay in PHL, so Tabitha came along and we went to go see some of the tourist attractions. I had been to PHL countless times, but my only understanding of the town was the airport and the hotel, and both of those are pretty terrible. So we arrived one evening and went to sleep with plans to wake up early in the morning to go downtown. We took public transportation and arrived just before the Independence National Historical Park was starting to open.

DSC_5435.JPG Our first stop was breakfast. We ate at "Ben's Place" and it was a nice little diner.

Next, we got tickets for the tour of the Independence Hall. They are a timed entry sort of thing where we had to wait our turn. To spend the time joyfully, we walked around some of the many gardens, and went to see the Liberty Bell.

After our turn in the bell tunnel we still had some time to kill. There were lots of fun textures to take pictures of, so that's what we did.

When our turn for the Independence Hall came around, we lined up with the other 60 or so people in our slot and waited patiently. The tour was well done and informative, and it was nice to think about the historic events that took place in the same building. I also like to look at the woodwork in such places and think of how they must have made it all without power tools or other modern machinery.

We still had some time left when our tour was over, so we walked down the road to the National Liberty Museum, partly because it was free, and partly because it looked like fun. Indeed it was fun, and we especially liked some of the glass art. There were some works by Dale Chihuly and others. The third picture below has been my desktop wallpaper since I first had the opportunity to make it so.

After the museum we stopped for a quick Philly cheese steak sandwich and went back to the hotel. It was a fun day for sure, especially for being a work day.
